Keep the Crux in Christmas (2019)

I hardly lift my heavy head. As Autumn turns and tumbles I'm trying not to lose my grip As down the street I stumble How can't can you expect me. * To remember my own name I roll in with a cheer And rolls out with a chain God is good But I can't tell the windows from the doors And the old man paces round the hall And weeps on bathroom floors Some love dissapears Some clings like coffee stains And rolls in with a cheer And rolls out with a chain All that's solid falls apart These states are never stable Though we've fastened to false innocence Crouched at the tiny table While outside sickness waits for us And leans on candy canes And rolls in with a And rolls out with a chain When it seems I'm far toogone And can't do nothing more Just put me in the corner of The very last bookstore To frighten all the children Till they come back again Rolling in with cheer And rolling out in chains Rolling in with cheer And rolling out in chains

I've walked down life's narrow alleyways and cul de sacs alike And I see the families and the glowing lights inside And I've turned to see the horror Of what we do outside I pass by but it breaks my heart You know what they say windows are the eyeballs of the soul And those Hallmark holidays, Well they're just like thought control So I think to myself sometimes I wonder if our love Can stand the chill And let me tell you, folks, it breaks my heart And don't it break your heart? I met somebody on the road out one night walkin' And they didn't say a thing, they just let me go on talkin... About the tenuous state of compassion, Bad movies and the rain And how it all breaks my everloving heart " I said "I hope someday to make a perfect work of love 'Stead of cutting my fingers off to fit inside my glove" And they stopped me, sayin "Love ain't a feeling, it's more like making eggs" And let me tell you, folks, it broke my heart Don't it break your heart?

Carnation 02:44
Count your rosaries and batten the hatch We're off to the races and locking the latch On the chance for a summary A carnation in my pocket I'm getting used to me Still holding on to the ledge For the strength to let go There's no need to speak That's how it goes You can't change the future, you can't kill the past That's yesterday's laundry up this morning's mast It's the task of a balcony To declare the start of a peace And the end of a mutiny Savor the view from the beach before we go home There's no need to speak Can't you see the truth glows? I'll keep from the edge and I'll swing the rope The highway of doubt is the highway of hope The temptation of treachery Look through the snow, don't you know That this is nature's fee It's time to admit to yourself You're in bed with a stone But there's no need to speak You can reach me by phone He came to the house with an old walking cane Age 23 and not quite insane It's a prop & necessity To admit his feelings inside And he felt he was born to be Caught by the wind, whipped around Like a leaf in the road There's no need to speak When everyone knows
